US issued its first popular Christmas stamp in 1962 featuring a wreath and candles. By 1970, the Post Office permanently split Christmas stamps into Traditional and Contemporary categories, satisfying diverse preferences.
The Contemporary Christmas series features an elf wrapping presents, depicted in a digital illustration by Don Clark. The stamp celebrates Santa and his elves, crucial figures in the classic non-religious Christmas story.
The First Day of Issue Ceremony for this stamp was held at Santa Claus House in North Pole, Alaska.
Each North Pole elf, like Alabaster Snowball and Sugarplum Mary, contributes unique talents and quirks to make Christmas magical for all. Alabaster, with a degree from Oxford, manages the Naughty or Nice List, ensuring no child is overlooked.
Sugarplum Mary, known for her heartwarming sugarplum treats, serves as the North Pole’s head chef and Mrs. Claus’s top assistant. She brought joy and unity, bridging gaps between humans and elves in her homeland before joining the North Pole community.
